Very Important: Before downloading transactions and importing them into Quicken, be sure to make a
backup copy of your Quicken database. (Please see your program's documentation or owner's manual for details.)
If the import results are not acceptable, you can always restore your original file from backup.
This function will allow you to download transactions from First Financial to a file which you save on
your computer. You can then import this file into Quicken or Microsoft Money. The steps for downloading
transactions are as follows:
Select the share or loan from which to download transactions.
Select the starting date for transactions. This date must be within the last 180 days; earlier
transactions are not available online. If you need assistance entering a date, please see the help section
on entering dates.
Select the ending date for transactions.
- Click the Continue button.
Your transactions will be packaged into a file, and you will be prompted to download this file to
your computer. Select the option to 'Save this file to disk', and click 'OK', then select a location
on your computer to save the file.
Please note that the default file name is 's' or 'l' for share or loan, then the share or loan number,
then 'qkndl.qif'. For example, if you download transactions from your Share 10, the default file name is
's10qkndl.qif'.
Q: How do I import QIF files into Quicken?
A: Use Quickens Import feature to update your Quicken accounts. To do this:
- Back up your Quicken data file.
- If the Quicken account you want to import data into doesn't exist, create it.
- If you are importing the data from a floppy disk, insert the disk in the drive.
- To open the QIF Import window:
- In Quicken 99 and 2000, from the File menu, point to Import, and then click QIF File.
- In Quicken 98, from the File menu, point to File Operations, and then click Import.
- In the QIF File to Import: field, enter the full path of the QIF file you are importing from.
If you are not sure where the QIF file is located, use the Windows Find feature to locate your file with
a .qif extension.
- In the Quicken Account to Import into: field, select the account you want to import the data into.
- Select the items you want to include in the Import process and click OK.
Quicken Download Warnings
This function will allow you to download a maximum of 100 transactions at a time; the most recent 100
transactions prior to or on the ending date will be selected. If you wish to download more than 100
transactions, you must use the start date and end date fields to split up your transactions into groups of
100 or fewer.
Unfortunately, you will not receive a warning if you try to download more than 100 transactions.
If you import the same transaction file twice, or if you download and import the same transaction
as part of two different transaction files, Quicken will double post the transactions. This means that your
Quicken file will contain duplicate transactions.
If you enter some transactions by hand, and you then import the same transactions from First
Financial, Quicken will double post the transactions. For example, if you make an entry for check number
123 and you import the transaction for check number 123, your Quicken file will contain two different
entries for check number 123.
If you are using Quicken versions other than Quicken 98, imported transactions from the year 2000 or
beyond will be sorted incorrectly. This is a Year 2000 issue with Quicken and the QIF format and it reflects
the fact that the 'correct' QIF format depends on which version of Quicken you are using.
