Credit Reports

It's a great idea to obtain a copy of your credit report annually to verify that it is complete and accurate before you need to apply for a loan. It is very easy to order your credit report, and Maryland law limits the amount that credit bureaus can charge for a credit report.

You may receive a copy of your credit report for free:

  • If you have been denied credit based on the information contained in your credit report, or
  • If you are a Maryland resident, and you have not received a free credit report in over a year.

You may order a copy of your credit report by mail, by phone or over the Internet. You will need to provide the following information to obtain your report:

  • First, middle and last name (including Jr., Sr., III)
  • Current address
  • Previous addresses used in the past five years, if any
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of birth
  • Name of current employer
  • Home phone number
  • If you are ordering by mail, include your signature and any applicable fee.

There are three companies that maintain credit reports on individuals. These are:
